“Building For Our Future” (BFOF) is an initiative to renovate four of Portland’s oldest elementary schools. Targeted improvements will address 21st century learning values, safety and security, and greater equity in Portland’s schools. In 2017, City voters approved a $64 million Building for our Future Bond to renovate four elementary schools (Lyseth Elementary School, Longfellow Elementary School, Presumpscot Elementary School, and Reiche Elementary School). Renovation work at Lyseth Elementary School is already underway, with the next three schools currently in design development. Construction is expected to proceed simultaneously for these three remaining schools, commencing in Spring/Summer 2021.
BFOF projects are being shepherded by a District Advisory Building Committee (DABC), as well as individual Building Level Advisory Committees (BLAC) for each school. The District has contracted with Harriman, a local architectural, engineering, and planning firm to design these schools.
